How to distribute YML products into sections

For YML with categories, the import shows a "Sections from file" block: check the categories, click "Create sections" — and new objects will be placed under them.

  1. Open "Import" and upload the supplier's YML file. If it contains categories, a "Sections from file" block will appear.
  2. Check the desired categories. Checking a category also checks its subcategories; there is a "Search category" for finding them.
  3. In "Nest in section", select where to place the tree, or "— to site root —". If desired, check "Copy this section's properties to new sections".
  4. Click "Check", then "Create sections".
  5. In the column mapping, the categoryId column must be set to "Category from file" — usually it is selected automatically. Then import as usual.

The "category / subcategory" structure is repeated by site sections. New sections take the module, access, and preview template from the section they are nested in.

The link between a category and a section is remembered. Re-running with the same file won't duplicate anything: already linked categories are shown with a gray checkmark and the section name. A section with the same name in the same place is also not duplicated, but linked. An unchecked category is skipped, and its subcategories are placed under the nearest created section above.

A new object is placed in the section of its category. If the category has no section — in "Section for new objects", with a note in the report.

If it didn't work

  • The "Sections from file" block is missing. It appears only for YML that has a list of categories. For CSV and XLSX it never appears — there, use the "Section" column.
  • Already uploaded objects didn't move. The category only distributes new objects. Existing ones are moved manually using the "Section" field.
  • I deleted a section — the category is offered again. That's by design: the link is deleted along with the section.
